The wrecked Dali ship led to a local marine terminal nearly two months after the bridge collapse.
The Army Corp of Engineers announced that it managed to move the cargo vessel Dali away from the crash site of the Baltimore Bridge this week. The massive vessel was cleared from the wreckage nearly two months after the collision and bridge collapse occurred.
The agency stated that the container ship was buoyant Monday morning and transported safely to a local marine terminal using tugboats. Salvage crews are now able to remove the remainder of the metal wreckage from the crash site.
“The Unified Command continues to clear the remaining wreckage from the Fort McHenry Federal Channel,” said the Unified Command stated. “We’re pleased to see the successful refloating and moving of the M/V Dail today to its new location. We won’t slow down until the channel is fully restored.”
Maryland officials estimate that it will cost around $1.8 billion to rebuild the bridge by 2028.
